Hello. My name is Katie Dempsey. I received my teaching degree from St. Martin’s University and my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at Seattle University. I love the opportunity that administration provides because it gives me the chance to not only interact with students of all grades, but also to work with an incredibly dedicated group of teachers to support the growth of our amazing school. My favorite thing about Holy Rosary Regional School is the commitment that we have to educating all students/families who seek a quality, innovative Catholic education.

My name is Amparo Farias. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology and a specialization in Kindergarten. I also received a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education with a minor in History from Texas A&M International University. My teaching experience began in Laredo, Texas where I taught at two different bilingual elementary schools and a middle school over a period of ten years. Then, my family moved to Seattle and I started a Kindergarten program at St. Philomena Catholic School in Des Moines, WA. I worked at this school for 17 years as a Kindergarten teacher, 1st, and 4th grade teacher. Our family then moved abroad and we lived in Sweden for two and a half years before returning to live in Tacoma. I have been working now at Holy Rosary Regional School for seven years in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Last year I made the transition to the Juan Diego Coordinator. I will be helping the teachers develop and execute new curriculum. Being able to teach children to read and write in two languages is a feeling that is hard to describe. Dual language teachers work very hard to provide a language rich environment in all subject areas including religious education. I am so happy to be a part of the Juan Diego Academy.

I was born in Aberdeen, Washington. At age nine, I moved to Mexico with my parents and siblings. Following in my mother’s footsteps, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Universidad Continente Americano. This will be my second year teaching at Holy Rosary. It is wonderful to see how parents are so involved in their children’s lives. I feel blessed to teach first grade completely in Spanish for the third time, it’s truly amazing to observe them grow as individuals, adopting the foreign language while I learn from them as well. Students around this age have so much potential and energy, I believe all of them are capable of achieving greatness, especially if you give them the right tools. I am very thankful for the opportunity that Holy Rosary’s amazing community has given me. I look forward to a successful year at Juan Diego Academy!

My name is Kaelyn Holguin and I am so excited to be working at Holy Rosary School/Juan Diego Academy for my second year after three years of working in the public schools system! I grew up right around Tacoma in Gig Harbor, Washington before attending the University of Portland where I received my Elementary Education degree with specialization in reading, early childhood education, and a Spanish minor. When I was in college, I got a chance to work in Catholic schools and was immediately impressed by their warm attitude, devotion to each student, and being able to combine faith into all aspects of learning. After graduation I was happy to return home and spent the past three years substitute teaching and full time teaching both kindergarten and second grade in various public schools. I am so happy and grateful to be at Holy Rosary School for another year because of its warm, friendly community of teachers, parents and students. I am impressed by how much my students love to learn, love God, and love each other!

I am a lifelong Catholic, having spent my elementary school years at St. Francis of Assisi school in Burien and then Kennedy Catholic High School. I worked for 27 years in the computer industry, spending much of that time traveling around the world installing computer systems. I decided to go back to school and acquire teaching credentials in Social Studies (512) from Western Governors University. During the time I was in school, I worked as a Paraeducator in the Auburn School District where I learned to motivate students with multiple and diverse disabilities.
Upon acquiring my credentials at the beginning of 2015, I worked as a longterm substitute at St. Bernadette Parish in Burien instructing middle school Language Arts and Literature. I served as a substitute teacher in the Archdiocese for the 2015/2016 school year and in May, began as the longterm substitute for the 5th/6th grades at HRRS/JDA. I am looking forward to being the 5th/6th grade home room teacher for the 2016/2017 school year while teaching middle school Social Studies and Science.
Outside of teaching, I am a member of the Schola Cantorum Choir at Holy Family Parish in Auburn and I have some lengthy experience with Musical Theater. I plan on putting both of these experiences to good use while teaching at HRRS/JDA.
